Snowy White

He pulls on his woollen hat and wraps his knitted scarf
'round his neck; preparing for
the bitter chill just outside the door.
He places his feet inside his red boots
and his mommy starts to lace them, but he is too big for that.
"No mommy! My turn! My turn!" he cries. And he begins to tie
his boots. He can't quite get it right. The laces won't stay tied.
Determined to do it himself, he refuses his mommy's help.
Finally, they stay knotted and he is ready to brace the frosty wind.

He runs outside to join his friends.
Rolling snow, and building forts.
Smack! A snowball hits his face.
First he cries, then he laughs and throws
his own snowball.

Snow sculptures spread across the snowy-white lawns
and as the parents step outside to call their children inside for
hot chocolate, the weather doesn't seem quite so cold or unfriendly.

What a sweet poem! I remember days like those: snow forts, building and destroying other kids' snow castles and snow men... Good times. Hot chocolate was also an especially good treat in the dead of winter on those particularly cold days. Was there really that much snow in Peterborough? I thought your winters were pretty mild. Anyhow, sweet poem BDog!

pssst,I'm from Brampton - ie GTA. Chris is the one from Peterborough. And yes, we got lots of snow when we were kids. So many snow days where either the whole school or the buses were canceled. In high school, since i took a bus to school, either way it meant no school. The winters in toronto are slightly warmer: the wind isn't quite so cold and bitter, but the snow was still pretty deep. and the winters don't last as long, none of this snowing in April or May business that ottawa has!
